Surat man, 7-year-old daughter fall to death from flyover after getting entangled in a kite string

The accident occurred while the man on a two-wheeler was crossing the Jilani bridge in Surat.

A man and his seven-year-old daughter on a motorcycle died in Gujarat after they allegedly got entangled in a nylon kite string and fell from a flyover in Surat on Wednesday evening, the police said.

According to the police, the accident occurred when the man identified as Rehan Shaikh, 35, a resident of Saiyedpura in Surat, was crossing the Chandra Shekhar Azad bridge (also known as Jilani bridge), while on his way to Subhash Garden at Morabhagal, on his bike along with his wife Rehana, 30, and their daughter Alisha.

The Rander police said that when Rehan came into contact with the kite string, he used one hand to remove the string, while controlling his bike with the other. During the process, he lost control of the vehicle that was moving at a high speed, and the bike hit the bridge’s outer railing, throwing him and his daughter 70 feet off to the ground.

Rehan and Alisha died on the spot, while Rehana, who fell on a parked auto-rickshaw, is in a critical condition, the police said.
